Venous Insufficiency Surgery Patient

Gary Is Grateful To Dr. Kerr For Treating His Venous Insufficiency and Possibly Preventing Blood Clots And A Pulmonary Embolism

Venous insufficiency was causing Gary some leg problems such as leg pain, leg stiffness, and leg cramping at night.

Venous insufficiency is a very dangerous vein disease because, if left untreated it can cause a blood clot and a pulmonary embolism, which can be fatal.

Unfortunately, a pulmonary embolism took Gary’s father’s life because his father’s venous insufficiency was not treated in time.

Since venous insufficiency can be hereditary, Gary was also at risk of developing a blood clot and having a potentially deadly pulmonary embolism, just like his father did.

When Gary started to experience leg pain, leg swelling and leg stiffness in the evenings after jogging or playing tennis, he became very concerned that he had possibly developed venous insufficiency.

Knowing the dangers of untreated venous insufficiency, Gary realized that his life may be at risk and scheduled a vein consultation with board certified vascular surgeon Dr. Thomas Kerr, here at The Vein and Vascular Institute.

Given Gary’s family history and symptoms, Dr. Kerr ordered a vascular ultrasound to determine if Gary did in fact have venous insufficiency.

The results of the vascular ultrasound confirmed that Gary did indeed suffer from venous insufficiency in his legs and was at risk of developing a blood clot that could travel to his lungs and cause a potentially deadly pulmonary embolism.

To help save Gary’s life Dr. Kerr performed venous insufficiency surgery (EVLT – endovenous laser ablation) to close the diseased veins in Gary’s legs that were causing Gary’s venous insufficiency.

After the venous insufficiency surgery, Gary recovered quickly, and was able to resume jogging and playing tennis within a couple of weeks.

Gary was happy that the treatment was quick and painless and that overall his experience at The Vein and Vascular Institute was great.

Gary's Testimonial About Venous Insufficiency Surgery To Prevent A Blood Clot

“Hi I’m Gary Dolgin and I’ve lived in Tampa since I was two years old.

I am a board-certified marital and family law attorney and I have my own practice downtown.

I am a runner and I am a tennis player.

I noticed after I had been jogging that sometimes when I was trying to fall asleep at night I felt some pain and some stiffness in my legs.

One day, my brother, who is a local Ear, Nose and Throat surgeon called me and said he had been in to see Dr. Kerr and he had an issue with his leg.

He thought it might be hereditary because our dad died from a pulmonary embolism in 2009.

I said to him ‘What a coincidence, because I was wondering did the stiffness in my leg mean anything.’

He suggested I call Dr. Kerr. I came in and had an ultrasound done end it was recommended that I have some preventative surgery done because there was insufficient blood flow from my lower extremities.

It was caught in time. And Dr. Kerr said if it hadn’t been caught in time then it could potentially be a very dangerous problem down the line.

I was in the middle of a judicial campaign. Between that and running a law office, you’re not necessarily focusing on heading to the doctor’s office.

But your health is the most important thing, so I came to the doctor’s office.

I’m not one that likes to have any type of surgery.

I’ve been fortunate in my life that other than a routine colonoscopy I’ve never had any type of surgery. So you can call me a surgery chicken.

I remember as a kid I didn’t like getting shots and so naturally I was a little concerned about this but it was explained to me that it wasn’t really going to hurt that much. That I will feel a little bit of a pinch.

I had both legs done at the same time and the whole thing took about 25 minutes to get done. It really wasn’t that painful at all.

It appears to have been successful and I’m told that it prevented a huge, potentially dangerous problem down the road. So I’m very thankful for that.

I told my sister about it too and she’s having the same procedure done.

I didn’t win the election. But some things are more important than winning elections…your health!

It wasn’t painful at all.

I had a short recovery period afterwards. I was home and had my reclining on the couch, chilling out for a day, and then wearing hose for two weeks.

I took off from running for a couple of weeks, then I started running again. At first when I started running again I wasn’t quite there at full speed. Not that speed is a major thing today but let’s just say at full endurance.

I feel like I’m back to normal now, which is great!

So I say to people in general with regard to any issue regarding your health, go get regular check ups from your doctor. If your body is telling you something, listen to it and get things checked out. Because you can prevent a very serious problem.

I am thankful that we were able to prevent a serious problem.

I’m very happy that I will have many years to take care of my clients in their most difficult times and issues, just like Dr. Kerr is taking care of me and my brother and sister. We are very appreciative of that.

I am happy to recommend Dr. Kerr to anyone who has an issue with their veins or their legs.

I can’t even pronounce the name of the procedure that he did on me. All I know is that it prevented some huge problems and I’m thankful for that.

Get yourself checked out. Getting an ultrasound is not that difficult and if you have to have a procedure done, it’s not painful and you’ll be thankful that you did.”

If you have been suffering from leg pain, leg swelling or have developed varicose veins or spider veins on your legs, you may have venous insufficiency.

If left untreated, venous insufficiency can lead to the development of blood clots which can travel to the lungs and cause a potentially fatal pulmonary embolism.

Early diagnosis and treatment of venous insufficiency can help save your life.

At The Vein and Vascular Institute our board certified vascular surgeons diagnose and treat venous insufficiency on an outpatient basis.
